What the technical interview covers
- Project walk-through
- OOP
- DBMS
- DSA
20 questions to prepare
1.Walk me through your final-year project.
What a good answer covers
- The problem in one line
- Your exact role (not the team’s)
- Tech stack and why
- One hard bug and how you fixed it
- Result or what you would improve
Sample answer
My project is a library seat-booking app for our college. Students wasted time finding free seats, so we built a web app where they book a seat for a slot. I built the backend in Java with Spring Boot and MySQL, and the booking logic. The hardest part was two students booking the same seat at once; I fixed it with a unique constraint on seat and slot plus a transaction, so the second booking fails cleanly. About 300 students used it in the pilot. Next I would add a waitlist.
Follow-up to expect: Why MySQL and not MongoDB? What would break first with 10,000 users?
2.Which programming language are you most comfortable with, and why?
What a good answer covers
- Name ONE language you can defend
- What you have built in it
- One feature you like and can explain
Sample answer
Java. I used it for my project and for DSA practice. I like that it is strongly typed, so many mistakes are caught at compile time, and its collections (ArrayList, HashMap) cover most problems I solve.
Follow-up to expect: Expect deep questions in that language: keep the answer to a language you really know.
3.What are the four pillars of OOP? Give an example of each.
What a good answer covers
- Encapsulation, Abstraction, Inheritance, Polymorphism
- One real example per pillar
Sample answer
Encapsulation: a BankAccount keeps balance private and changes it only through deposit() and withdraw(). Abstraction: a Vehicle interface exposes start() without showing engine details. Inheritance: Car extends Vehicle and reuses its code. Polymorphism: the same start() call runs Car’s or Bike’s version depending on the object.
Follow-up to expect: Difference between abstraction and encapsulation?
